$2 million in federal funds will be flowing through a funding program set up for recreation of two trail projects in the Madison and Dane County. This program is made to improve and expand transportation alternatives in the region.
In the news release by the Department of Transportation they said that $1.3 million will be given to the Yahara River in Dane county and $715,000 will be given to the city of Madison’s Capital City Trail for segments 4 through 6.
Transportation Alternatives Program for improvements in sidewalk, recreational paths and safe routes to school programs gets about $13 million from the DOT. The federally funded program will help pay for 27 school, bike and pedestrian projects across the state.
80 percent of a project is funded by the federal program whereas the rest amount of funding comes from the local sources.
